Currently there is 2 of us that work on Cadenthea. We would love this to be our full time job as it is absolutely our passion project. So essentially all supporter packs you purchase will go directly to helping us grow the game further and add more features. Plus we want to do really cool things in the future to acknowledge your support, like getting you to help us with designing a stamp and other fun ideas like that. In saying that we thought that we would write a quick article that explains our stance on microtransactions as it is something that we have thought long and hard about. Don’t agree with us? Chat to us on Discord, we read every message and are happy to update and change our packs based on your feedback.

Embracing Ethical Monetization: Learning from Path of Exile

In the ever-evolving landscape of video game development, striking a balance between passion and profitability is a tightrope walk. Our latest venture, a game born from a blend of ambition and innovation, stands as a testament to this delicate equilibrium. From the outset, we made a pivotal decision – to incorporate monetization and supporter packs. This choice wasn't driven by mere financial aspiration but by a desire to learn from the best practices in the industry, notably from games like Path of Exile, renowned for their ethical approach to microtransactions.

Ethical Monetization: A Path Less Traveled

Monetization in video games is often a contentious topic, with many players voicing concerns over predatory practices. This is where games like Path of Exile shine as beacons of ethical monetization. They've demonstrated that it's possible to support a game’s growth and maintain player goodwill simultaneously. We’ve taken inspiration from their model, focusing on non-invasive, optional purchases that enhance the gaming experience without compromising game balance or player progress.

Supporting Full-Time Development: A Necessity, Not a Luxury

As creators, our ultimate goal is to dedicate ourselves full-time to the projects we're passionate about. This level of commitment, however, requires a stable financial foundation. By integrating monetization early, we avoid the common pitfall of adding it as an afterthought, which often results in a disjointed experience for players. We want to ensure that monetization feels like a natural part of the game, not a bolted-on necessity.

Balancing Features with Financial Viability

In a perfect world, we'd love to focus solely on adding new features and perfecting the game. However, the reality of game development, especially in a small team, is that resources are limited. Prioritizing monetization doesn't mean deprioritizing new content or features. Instead, it means acknowledging the importance of sustainability. By establishing a monetization strategy early, we ensure that we can continue to support, expand, and improve the game without compromising our vision.

Building a Game with the Community in Mind

Our approach to monetization is deeply rooted in our respect for the gaming community. We understand that trust is the cornerstone of any player-developer relationship. Therefore, our supporter packs and microtransactions are designed with transparency and fairness in mind. They offer value while respecting the player's choice and investment in the game.

Going Forward

As we move forward, we remain committed to learning, adapting, and refining our approach to monetization. We see this as an ongoing conversation with our players – one where their feedback is crucial to our growth and success. Our journey is not just about creating a game; it's about fostering a community and an experience that respects and values each player's contribution, both in terms of time and financial support.

For those of you that choose to support us, thank you so much, we really appreciate it.
